Deflector for a furnace with a screw feeder. It is made from a mixture of high-temperature concrete BOS 135 with an additive of thin wires reinforcing its resistance to high temperatures. It has standard dimensions, making it suitable for most boilers with feeders. The selection criterion for the deflector is its outer diameter. This deflector has a fixed mounting in the form of a hook. It can be used for boilers of other types, equipped with trough feeders and others depending on mounting possibilities. The advantage of concrete deflectors is that they retain the heat accumulated in them longer and cause better combustion of gases in the boiler chamber.

The coal combustion process does not end in the firebox. Combustion products always containing certain amounts of combustible substances (gases and tar vapors as well as soot) escape from the retort firebox, which should burn out in the combustion chamber above the burner. Four factors are essential for combustion: the presence of air (oxygen), good mixing of combustible substances with air, sufficient contact time of combustible substances with air, and a temperature higher than the ignition temperature of the combustible substances. If underburned combustion products from the firebox prematurely reach cold water surfaces at temperatures not exceeding 150°C (water jacket walls or emergency water grate) – combustion is interrupted and underburned flue gases reach the heat exchanger, resulting in condensation of tar on cooling surfaces. Dust and soot easily settle on the tar, which, together with polymerized tar over time, form deposits that are difficult to remove and have strongly insulating properties.

The deflector mounted in the boiler above the burner is designed to mix flue gases and air and maintain a high temperature in the combustion environment. It is most often a very flat cast iron or ceramic cylinder, with a diameter of 200-300mm and a height of 10-15mm (cast iron) or 30-50mm (ceramic), mounted at a height of 100-150mm above the upper edge of the burner. Numerous studies have conclusively proven that its presence is essential from the point of view of flue gas cleanliness and heat exchanger efficiency.

DEFLECTOR DIMENSIONS
Deflector diameter - 410 mm
Deflector height: approximately 90 mm
Hook height: 80 - 100 mm

WARNING! Do not install the cold deflector immediately after receiving the shipment. It is recommended to place the deflector on the flue pipe so that it gradually reaches the temperature inside the boiler. Incorrect installation may cause faster wear, cracks, or even breakage of the deflector right after ignition which is not subject to warranty claims.

If incompletely burned combustion products from the firebox prematurely reach cold water surfaces with a temperature not exceeding 150°C (water jacket walls or emergency water grate) – combustion is interrupted and unburned flue gases enter the heat exchanger, resulting in condensation of tar on cooling surfaces.
